The handicapped parking symbol, which we have dubbed the “handigram”, has been a ubiquitous fixture in parking lots since the 1970′s.
The official name for the handigram is the “International Symbol of Access“, which was designed in 1969. While the symbol is standardized, and signage is pretty consistent, executing it on asphalt has remained a challenge. This has resulted in a wide variety of styles and colors found across the country.
Next time you are searching for a parking space, watch for handigrams. If they look interesting, take a picture with your cell phone and send it to us so we can add it to this gallery. Please include the name of the business, and the city and state where it is located.
